Georges Head was used for defence purposes until recently when the area was included in the Sydney Harbour National Park. The head offers beautiful views of the harbour looking towards the heads (the opening to the sea). You can take a short walk through the bush to beautiful Chowder Bay. This was also used for defence. Fueling Navy ships is the only remaining defence function. Former Defence buildings are now managed by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and maintained for their historical interest.
