The Carnarvon Gorge National Park is located north of Roma and west of Bundaberg in Queensland. It is an "oasis" of beautiful, rich natural bush surrounded by pretty flat beef and marginal wheat country that does not hold much interest for tourists. Carnarvon Gorge Lodge is a good base for exploring the excellent walks in the park. Its buildings are modest but its quisine is superb.
