To see if the Photoflex mini softbox does anything, here is a reference photo with direct undiffused flash. The SB800 flash is about 1 foot above the camera lens, on a CB Junior bracket. The distance to the face is about 6 feet, about as close as you would ever want to get for a flash picture.
