Hagia Sophia or Saint Sophia was built by the Emperor Justinian in the early 6th century AD, and was one of the largest basilicas in the Christian world. It was used as a church for 916 years, then converted into a mosque in 1453 after the Ottoman conquest. It served the Moslems for about 481 years, and is today one of the most significant museums in the world. It is one of the marvels of world architechture.
