Saint Sophia was built by the Emperor Justinian in the early 6th century AD, used as a church for 916 years. It was converted into a mosque in 1453 served the Moslems for next 481 years. It is one of the marvels of world architechture.
The interior design and Byzantine mosaics were covered by plaster in 1750.These mosaics were unveiled and brought into daylight when the building was openned to public as a museum in 1935.
