I was a volunteer at this year's IRL race on Belle Isle. I was able to obtain some trackside photos during the pre-race practice and qualification runs on Friday & Saturday. Unfortunately, some goof ball photographer stepped out on a "hot" track (cars running) late Saturday and the rest of us suffered since they made the restrictions tougher afterwards. Lighting conditions were better for morning & early afternoon photography and actual race time (4 PM) photos would have been backlit. I was busy working anyway.

UPDATE...The 2009 & 2010 Detroit Grand Prix races have been canceled due to the bleak economy in this area.
