The Church of St Martin, at Fifield Bavant, is the smallest parish church in Wiltshire.
It is also reputed to be the second smallest in England in regular use: the smallest (according to the Guinness Book of Records) being at Culbone, in Somerset.
I managed to explore it in the 30 minutes of sunshine we had at lunchtime, before the clouds re-gathered; before clearing again in the evening, of course!
My husband and I visited this church in Fifield Bavant when we were on holiday from New Zealand in 1989. My husband was a Fifield and his grandfather came from Oxfordshire. It was a really pretty church with a lot of history for such a tiny church. We spent a short time there and prayed for a while. It was also a beautiful day and the sun was shining and we felt at peace when we were in the church. God Bless you all. Kaye Fifield. New Zealand
