Appuldurcombe House | Tennyson and West High Downs | To the 'Pepperpot' | Getting there (and back)

To the 'Pepperpot'

One of two towers standing sentinel over St Catherine's Down, at the southernmost point of the island, St Catherine's Oratory
-- known locally as the 'Pepperpot' (for obvious reasons) -- is Britain's second oldest lighthouse.

The other tower -- a mile further north -- is Hoy's monument: which commemorates a visit by Tsar Nicholas I in 1814.
