Cranborne Chase -- and particularly the vicinity of Knowlton -- is one of the most significant archaeological sites in north-west Europe. Between Sixpenny Handley and Wimborne, there are literally hundreds of round barrows or burial mounds; and within one kilometre of Knowlton Church alone there are 180 barrows (seven of which are clearly visible); and the Dorset Cursus, located a few kilometres to the west (a 10-kilometre long earthwork) forms the largest prehistoric monument in the whole of Europe.
More information on Knowlton can be found here and here.
