San Andres-Colombia

A tiny island just outside the coast of Nicaragua,that belongs to Colombia.
The people speak english and spanish and life is very,very relaxed and everyone is extremely friendly.The maximum speed is 30 km/h;in 1 hour one drives around the island,the average temp. is 28degrees Celsius,and for the women.....everything is Tax-Free!
I have seen a lot,but the color and the temperature of the sea are unique in the world.Cozumel is almost as beautiful.

after vacationing in puerta la cruz venezuela for 12 consecutive years,we decided on san andeas for something different.We fell in love at first sight.This was in 2000 and kept going back every february until flights stopped from Toronto .in 2009.we first stayed at the san luis at the south end then discovered the Isleno,which we stayed untill it was closed,then we moved to the maryland,till the end.This is a beautiful island ,with wonderful people and great shopping.the worlds best emerald are found there at Daniels ,in the center point plaza..great prices for some great looking pieces of jewellry.The island is small ,,,20 miles long and 3 miles long approximately.you can rent a golfcart for 40.00 for the whole day ,and discover San andrea,s true beauty.Iwould recomend this island for anybody looking for a hot,and quiet holiday ,away from the every day hussle and bussle of all the other comercialized tourist destinations.

Helen is right,but still, despite the "evolution" on this part of the world,I'm glad I saw it. All is due to modern tourism,..too many tourists for such a small island,and greed.

In early 1970's we discovered San Andres, a sleepy island. Few tourists, no shopping mall, dogs slept in the middle of the road, and a cat was resting near the cash registry where we paid 3 pesos to play in a sort of casino. The natives had their outhouses over the sea on one end of the island, Jonie Key was a dream for snorkeling, it was so peaceful for everyone. We returned two more times, the last trip twelve years apart. Drugs had entered, a shopping mall had appeared, crime existed, and the coral reef around Jonie Key was gone due to pollution. Our dream had fated, we never returned. Thank you for these pictures.

My wfie is from Colombia and I am from California. She introduced me to San Andres and we spent 7 beautiful days on a this magificant island on our honeymoon. We got married in Bogota, the day before, and the first day of our marriage was waking up together on this island. It was truley a dream come true! This was the most beautiful place I have ever seen! I love snorkeling and drinking COCO-LOCOS! I am a good swimmer and a good drinker, that's why I love this place. The people are so friendly, I never want to leave. I always wish I can go back. But we have 3 children, 2 boys and a baby girl, and I am working very hard in California to support my family. Hopefully soon I can take my whole family, all 5 of us back to this magical place on Earth. Thanks to Lord we are all doing good. Love San Andres and Providencia too.

The beautiful red cabins in these pictures are owned by my brother-in-law. My trip to San Andres last June was fantastic. The island is quaint, with just enough modern conveniences for US citizens to be comfortable. The beach near the airport is fantastic, and a few miles down the west coast of the island you can swim with the fish all day long. The diving is sensational and the underwater visibility is endless. A day on "Johnny Cay" will make you glad that you made the trip!!!!! It's the most tropical of all islands. Very tourist oriented and the natives are great. The night life is wonderful, the down town restaurants are inexpensive and the food is terrific. I'll be going back next year. It beats the heck out of "The Bahamas."

Ive been to San Andres 2 times and loved every minute of it. This place is beauitful,and ever since my fist trip I dream of returnig. Compared to many other places I have travelled, I find San Andres one of the most inexpensive and friendly destinations I have seen. I looked at the pictures and it brought back memories of the times I too have been too these places!
