Colonial-style architecture

Why the bottom of the trees are painted in white lime and why the trees are numbered? Sorry, I have no answer.

White paint so you don't bump into at night? Or to kill bugs? I don't know. It is ugly with whitewash! Number on trees? Well may be each tree has Ho. Khau too (residential record); go ask local commie police
