Acapulco, Mexico

The big Hollywood movie stars are not coming to Acapulco like they did in 1950s and 1960s. But that doesn't mean Acapulco is no longer a serious ocean playground of Mexico. It still is, for 22 million residents of the capital, 300 kms away. And the night life is still very active, with restaurants and night clubs and bars on Ave Costera Miguel play loud music until 5am. Their customers must be those who like to live at cool nights and sleep through hot days. The old movie stars, if they live again and return, may not recognize Acapulco anymore because so many new buildings have been built.
Acapulco is blessed with an oval-shaped bay and warm ocean water year round.
The warnings of Acapulco being unsafe for tourists issued by American and Canadian governments are unrealistic as confirmed by the local expats. I walked an average 10 kms a day for 30 days, both along the coast of the bay and inland up the mountains and felt very safe. Mexican army and police are everywhere.
