A re-created local village from the 17th and 18th centuries, an open-air museum some 10km northwest of Amsterdam. The most striking structures are the six working windmills that stand along the riverbanks.
The Zaan region is more than just windmills, wooden houses and a scenic landscape. It is a striking mix of little villages and towns, with old factory buildings beside the River Zaan amid an impressive open landscape with hundreds of ditches and canals.
