Touching the button (no, didn’t have the guts to even sit on it, let alone stand on it), passing swimming test and jumping of the top board, doing flying angels over the vaulting horse trusting the club swinger to break your fall if you cocked it up. Listening to the Beatles and Dusty in the bowling alley and ironing bread to make toast.
Low points; ironing my collar after some OD had made toast with it!!, being made to jump off the top board for being adrift for backward swimming lessons!
I struggled with some of it but overall I left there a much more self confident and self reliant person. Did 27 years, 21 of those in submarines and left as a chief chef.
