This is the Ensign being lowered following the dedication of the mast after the refit.
To be able to fly the white ensign at this event, after a four ringed captain who was the senior naval officer for East Anglia told the meeting of the organisers for this event that only ships in commission in the Royal Navy were entitled to fly this ensign – when we arrived back home I took the liberty to write to H.M. the Queen and ask if we could fly such and permission was granted.
It is now in the museum with copies of all the letters that transpired between me and Buckingham Palace!
