On the left is my Grandfather George Deseria Torode who was born on the Island of Guernsey in 1896. He joined the RN at Portsmouth as a Stoker in January 1914 - 7 months before WWI began. He completed his time for his pension when WWII was beginning and was retained for the duration. He came out in 1945 after over 31 years. On the right is my Dad Deseria Frederick Torode who joined at what was to become Billy Butlin's holiday camp, at Filey, as Stoker in 1939 as a HO rating. He also came out in 1945. I Brian Torode, joined Ganges in September 1961 and retired in 1986 as a CPO(Ops)(SM after 22 years in conventional Submarines.
