On the 18th February 1949 Admiralty ordered that the Birch should no longer be used.
It does not mention the cane and from anecdotal evidence it would appear that the cane was still used to administer cuts at Ganges until 1967.
Worth noting birching “is not considered corporal punishment within the meaning of the Naval Discipline Act”.
