Altho this photo cannot be dated our RN Uniform adviser tells us that :-
Going from the left of the photo:- 1) too far
away and unclear. 2 3 4 &5) Possibly the one piece overall although it looks
like there is also a two piece (figure 4) but that apparently did not come in until 1937.
6) canvas overall jacket with black buttons. I have a picture of this dated
1907 but I don't know if this is issue date. 7 & 8) ? can't work out what they
are wearing.
The 1914 Regs only give 'canvas overall suit' which is canvas jacket and
trousers. This was class 2 issue i.e. men dressed as seamen it was optional
for class 3 i.e. men wearing fore & aft rig, It also mentions a ' blue combination suit' which I take to be
overalls but was only issued to CPOs as it states " the blue combination suit is
compulsory for engine room ratings but optional for other CPOs.
