April 13, 2005: Goddess in Men's Shirt

Windsor, ON, Canada

This one started out as a retake on a black and white shot we saw on a website.
However, it took on a life of its own once we got set up.
It looks nothing like the photo we were attempting to try, but better.
Don't you love it when that happens? :)

Sharon asked me to post an alternate today, that she chose.
Here it is (click on the thumbnail for larger version):

Canon EOS 20D
1/200s f/5.6 at 62.0mm iso100 with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium large auto

Actually, this is a very nice one when Sharon did not smile. Normally, she looks prettier when smile. I like this one a lot.

Oh, I forgot to mention..

John (Nasche) - I like that you pay attention to the eyes. You got the light placement spot on. :)

Wow, such diverse opinions from a tough crowd. The expression and the composition of this one were exactly as planned once I got rolling and I actually feel that this is one of our better portraits of Sharon. It probably could have been better if her head was tilted downwards just a tad more.

I don't like fake smiles. If we have to do a posed studio shot, I prefer sexy, sultry as opposed to a posed stool portrait with a cheesy smile like that of my last school graduation picture. ;)

If there is one likely issue with our latest photos (and I really don't see it) it is that they were taken late in the day. Sharon is probably fatigued which, to some, probably comes across to some as anger. I don't see it though.. I see this look as intent and sultry; which is why I chose this frame over the 20-30 others in the series.

However, we will keep your comments in mind next time. We'll have to shoot some happy photos for those who dislike the style I prefer. :)

Guys this was a hard one for me . I had a splitting head ache last night. The flashes didn't help. It was hard to be sexy. I feel better today, so I will try to smile for you.

A bit too deadpan at the camera on the expression. Perhaps a tilt in the head and use that hair differently. Lot's you can do here to liven this up. Wave a hundred dollar bill...That always works!

Hmmm, … I don’t know Richard, … not sure she’s “pissed” though I can see it now that you say you see it. To me it’s more of a sultry look. One flash on Camera, (held vertical so the flash was to our left, second flash to the right about 2 feet away to take out some of the dark shadows, … not bad. Good “rules of thirds” placing Sharon to the left of the image. This is a good one.

I actually prefer Sharon's choice. This is really not a flattering picture of her. She looks pissed off here. Perhaps try something less posed, more natural and have some fun, perhaps she'll smile for a change. The only picture I recall having seen her smile, she was flippin' you the 'bird'. That should probably tell you something. Occasionally you get a very nice shot, but more often than not she looks unhappily posed. She's a beautiful woman, but if she's not enjoying herself, perhaps you should reconsider portraying her thusly.
