The NYC/NYU 2031 Plan proposes to destroy most of the existing green spaces here in the heart of historic Greenwich Village - including the Sasaki Garden Landscape, Children's Playgrounds, LaGuardia Corner Community Gardens, Mercer Street Gardens, Bleecker Street Gardens at the NYU Athletic Center and additional park strips on Mercer Street and LaGuardia Place - for a massive skyscraper expansion program on two super blocks directly south of the NYU Library and Administration Building. There is strong opposition to the plan by the NYU Faculty Against President Sexton's Plan (FASP), interested student groups, Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, community residents and local businesses as well as environmental and ecology organizations.
