This park, the trees, garden & toddler's playground in this particular location is scheduled to be destroyed by the NYU Expansion Plan to build an entrance to a NYU skyscraper here.
The NYU Administration maintains that this park strip and the park strip on Mercer Street is legally a highway owned & maintained by the NYC Transportation Department & not protected by the NYC & NY State Parks Administration. The NY State Supreme Court recently ruled that NYU has the right to use this public park land to build a series of NYU skyscrapers
here in the heart of historic Greenwich Village.
