This view is near the end of LaGuardia Place Park & Garden with the NYU Library & Administrative sandstone building blocking the open park strip access to Washington Square Park from West Houston Street. Before that NYU Library was built, for several years, it was a vest pocket park area adjacent to the corner of Washington Square South & East. Consequently, by NYU's use of what was once public land, valuable park areas have been exploited by NYU's private use. Additionally that library casts a very dark shadow over the southeast corner of Washington Square Park over most of the daylight hours, depriving park visitors of precious sunshine. Before this NYU Library was built there was a clear view & public access to Washington Square Park.
