This view is near the end of LaGuardia Place Park & Garden with the NYU Library & Administrative sandstone building blocking the open park strip access to Washington Square Park from West Houston Street. Before that NYU Library was built, for several years, it was a vest pocket park area adjacent to the corner of Washington Square South & East. Consequently, by NYU's use of what was once public land, valuable park areas have been exploited by NYU's private use. Additionally that library casts a very dark shadow over the southeast corner of Washington Square Park over most of the daylight hours depriving park visitors of precious sunshine.
