Since about 1970, all but one of these NYU buildings were built here in the heart of historic Greenwich Village against well established zoning laws. This building program is destroying the character of this unique area of NYC. Now the NYC/NYU 2031 Expansion Plans call for the destruction of city park strips, gardens, children's playgrounds and a community dog run to build more skyscrapers on two super blocks south of this location. The Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation, NYU Faculty Against the Plan, community residents and local business people have filed appeals to our courts of law to stop the destruction of this neighborhood in the hopes that NYU will reconsider their plan and expand in NYC neighborhoods where their facilities are wanted and needed.
