The NYC/NYU 2031 Plan proposes to destroy this Sasaki Garden Children's Playground for a skyscraper building in a massive skyscraper expansion program on this block and the block directly south of this location - against strong opposition to the plan by the NYU Faculty Against President Sexton's Plan (FASP), interested student groups, Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, community residents and local businesses as well as environmental and ecology organizations. It's tragic when our institutions of "higher education" set this destructive, greedy, land grab standard when better educational objectives are available - incomprehensible when basic living conditions are threatened, children's playgrounds, lovely gardens and public park strips are seized and recklessly destroyed for such poorly defined "educational" objectives.
