Mayor Bloomberg, the Manhattan Borough President, the NYC Planning Commission & the New York City Council have approved the destruction of this garden, children's playgrounds, public park strips, a dog run and the Washington Square Village Sasaki Garden for the construction of several new high rise buildings in the heart of historic Greenwich Village - against strong opposition by community residents, 37 NYU faculty schools & departments, the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, the New York City Community Board and local businesses.
Legal proceedings are pending to obtain an injunction to stop, for the public good, this private use of land.
