On July 25, 2012 the New York City government approved the NYU2031 expansion plan to destroy this treasured Washington Square Village Hideo Sasaki Garden along with a near ideal adjacent children's playground, park strips, dog run and community garden at Bleecker Street & LaGuardia Place for several new high rise buildings in the heart of historic Greenwich Village.
Over 300 mature trees will also be lost to accommodate these new buildings. Legal proceedings are pending to restrain this plan.
