This is what a current deconstruction site looks like on public garden land taken before the work day began. Note the apple tree that was recently destroyed with blossoms still on its branches. It was approved by our city government for a toddler's playground in a very heavy traffic area from 9-5 with wall to wall private cars parked and moving a few steps away. Meanwhile the new NYU 2031 Plan calls for the total destruction of a much more extensive & appropriate children's playground off the street space on the adjacent Mercer Street park and playground area. This is a very questionable city planning action allowed without protest from NYU.
