Deep, dark, and blue ... Crater Lake

How did a mountain become a lake? 7,700 years ago, a massive volcanic eruption, carved out the basin where the deepest body of water resides in this country. A mountain peak was transformed into the belly of an erupted volcano. Centuries of rain and snow filled the basin that has no outlet from which water can drain. Seepage and underground springs control the water level yearly.
