How long do I have to stand this way?
The limb on this old Cedar tree looks like an arm with a hand on the end of it.

Dying cottonwoods of Wyoming
A vast area of Wyoming is suffering from low rain/snow falls for the last several years, many 100 plus year old trees are dying.

Quiet
Can you be....quiet? When you stop listening to yourself..what do you hear?

Backlit seeds on some kind of tree in my yard
The sun was coming through the branches of the taller maples and wild cherry and alder that surround our front yard, lighting up the wings on these seeds. I have not been able to positively identify this tree yet. The tree is interesting in that most of the leaves are varigated but two branches of them are not. One lady that was here insisted that it is an Ash tree but I couldn't find it in the book. It is probably a common tree somewhere but not around here.

Fall must be here!
These little guys come about this time every year..you can see how short the depth of focus was by the grain of the wood he was crawling on. He was just about to reach the area of focus. Not a great picture technically but I like the effect...

Mt. St. Helens May 14th 1980 first eruption four days prior to major eruption!
Of course we had no idea what was to come and later that day the FAA closed the airspace. This was taken out the passenger window of a Cessna 182. Upper right corner you can just see the base of Mt. Rainier to help with perspective and direction of view. Note the dusting of ash. This ash was the very first external sign of what was happening deep inside. About one hour after first eruption.
