Wide angle shot of Milky Way with Southern Cross at center

Go ahead, count them if you can! Taken from the Mt John observatory near Lake Tekapo, NZ. The kind folks there helped me mount my camera on their special tripod that tracks the earths movement so well that even with this very long exposure (6 minutes)the stars came out amazingly clear. Two thirds up on the right edge of this picture is what appears to be an extra bright star. They told us there at the observatory that is a 'star cluster' with over a million stars in it! I'd like to meet the person that counted them...I do know who named them.
