This shows the newly rebuilt "University Library City Centre" in the historic heart of Utrecht. It consists of many connected historic buildings, some of which served as royal palace during french rule in the Netherlands. The library opened to the public on August 31st, 2009 and currently holds the humanities collections (most other collections are in the main library on the Uithof campus). During the next two years even more adjoining buildings will be restored and refurbished to be connected to the library, after which the faculty of law and economics will move their collections in as well. The renovation is a project of architects Pascal Grosfeld and Jaap Bekkers (Grosfeld van der Velde Architecten). Some of the images were made a few days before the opening, when there was still a lot of work going on to get everything ready on time. The building is dominated by white, but because of a mixture of daylight, tungsten and fluorescent light, many different atmospheres have been created. This is reinforced by the distictive historical characters of the various parts of the complex.

Update: in july 2012 another wing was opened housing the collections of the former law and economics library. I will add images from that new wing at the top of this gallery.
