The winter of 2010 lasted long. Ice drift on the IJsselmeer lake was pushed towards the shore near Gaast in Friesland, The Netherlands, and piled up there. At 2 kilometers from shore these mountains of ice appeared. The Dutch call this phenomenon of drifting ice "kruiend ijs" and the resulting pile up "kistwerk".
