Mausoleum and shrine of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Building started in 1634. A huge army of some 15000 artisans from all over Japan was enlisted to complete the buildings. Far removed from the austere Zen architecture, Tosho-gu is lavishly decorated with no cost spared in gold plating. A feast for the eyes!
