These tents were and still are the summer "homes" of people, most of whom were Methodist Church members from the surrounding tri-state area (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania) since the mid-1800s. The Ocean Grove community is a 1-square-mile site where "Camp Meetings" were and still are held every summer. Hence, the proper name for Ocean Grove: "Ocean Grove Camp Meeting."
