Dust on Sensor

3/29/2006
At Palomar Mountain trip, I found a lot of dust in my image especially image with small aperture - F11 or bigger.
After the trip, I took white paper image with telephoto lens with F22 and found a lot of dust exist on sensor. I wanted to use Mirror Lock-up function to blow sensor but I don't have AC Adapter to use this function in D2X.
I used bulb mode to blow sensor with air blower - not caned blower. It improved situation but not quite perfect.
I purchased Sensor Brush from VisibleDust - http://www.visibledust.com/ - and will try it lator and put result.

I learn Sensor Brush at Thom Hogan's web site - http://www.bythom.com/cleaning.htm

I received Sensor Brush and tried it. After first try, it reduced number of dust on sensor. Then I tried second time and got huge stain as shown in "Stain after cleaning". I use sensor brush to wipe around chamber and brush has been contaminated. I learned lesson that "Don't clean chamber with brush".

I use non water ethanol to clean sensor by using Kodak lens paper rolling around wood stick as Nikon Japan suggested in their cleaning kit. After several wipe, I managed to remove stain and only a few dust left as shown "After ethanol cleaning".

I cleaned sensor brush with baby shampoo as suggested in visibledust instruction. And I've been using sensor brush for dust cleaning and I really like the result. It can't get rid of entire dust but does good enough job for my photograph.
