Tikal was once inhabited by up to 100.000 people, left for unknown reasons in the end of the 9th century. Consequently the area of the perished center of power is huge. The only partially excavated palaces and temples are hidden in the jungle. But Tikal Nationalpark is not just about a mysterious human culture, it's real wildlife. We recommend to take a guide, who can show you more than you would see on your own.
