After being destroyed three times by earthquakes the capital was transferred to Guatemala City in the late 18th century. The church and convent ruins were never restored, the city stopped developing. Walking in the colourful streets, the volcanos arising in the background, feels like a travel in time. We recommend to veg out in the patios of the numerous cafes and restaurants.
