Sometimes, nature photography reveals the stark reality of life in the wild. This cow moose was severely injured, most likely by wolves, almost certainly before delivering this newborn calf. All of us observing expected the predators to return and finish them off during the night. Miraculously, they did not. Perhaps the scent of many humans in the area deterred them. Mother and calf were still alive two days later, when I left the park.
Hi Hal, great observations, commentary and photography. This is nature at its best. I am glad you were there to record the drama. Keep us your connection with nature and wonderful photography, Cheers, Will
