Terracotta Army

The Terracotta Warriors archeologic dig is a well known Chinese cultural site. It is adjacent to the burial mound of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, who died in 210 BC. This is not just a few soldiers, but an entire army. It is simply impossible to appreciate the vast size, attention to detail, and effort that was required to construct this monument without seeing it in person. Pit One, pictured here contains over 6000 life sized, exquisitely detailed soldiers. Initially, they were painted or glazed, as well, but the paint is gone. The great majority of this archeologic treasure has yet to be unearthed. Xi'an, China

Amazing view of this impressive place.I was here in 1988 when there were so few western tourists around and, evidently, pictures were not allowed in the historic place.V
