Giant Pacific Octopus, Attacking Wolf Eel

This is the very large and aggressive octopus pictured on these pages about 6 months ago. As we were running low on air, and had turned off our cameras and strobes the octopus reappeared and attacked this large Wolf Eel. Unfortunately, this stirred up a sand storm on the bottom, and I only had time for 1 shot. The male Wolf Eel is about 7 feet long, and about 3 feet (1 meter) of him is visible outside of the rocky den. The Wolf Eel had previously lost it's snout in some other altercation. I believe that the material in the Wolf Eel's mouth is a piece of the octopus.

Great shot, Hal. To bad you ran low on air, this would have been an outstanding series.
