Mantis Shrimp Eyes

Mantis Shrimp have the most complex eyes in all of nature. Each eye separately has depth perception and can be moved independently. They can visualize light in the UV spectrum, as well as both linearly and circularly polarized light. All of this leads to the obvious question: Why?
