Historic Vicksburg was the half-way point on our drive to Destin.
Since we knew little or nothing about Civil War history, and Dou Dou knew less than that, it seemed like a logical place to brush up or start from scratch. It was beautiful, interesting, perfect.

A museum honors the U.S.S. Cairo, sunk in the Mississippi in 1863.
In 1963, it was carefully raised from the Mississippi mud and painstakingly restored.
Remarkably, no lives were lost when the ship was sunk.
