Mount Tom, located just west of the Connicut River in Western Massachsetts has played a major role in the development of Holyoke and Easthampton, the two cities that flank it. At the turn of the century it hosted an inclined railway, a mountaintop resort hotel, and a famed amusement park reachable by trolley from downtown Holyoke. Later it hosted the Mt Tom Ski Area. Today most of the mountain is a state park and wildlife preserve...and its array of tv and radio transmission towers is a familiar sight to area residents and travelers on I91 into and out of Vermont and New Hampshire.
