The Nikon AF-S 24-85mm f/3.4-4.5, the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, and the Nikon AF 35-70mm f/2.8, with the Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4 as control. All shot at f/5. The zoom slipped on the 24-85, so that NEF had to be cropped a bit to equalize, but crop was not sufficient to mask sharpness or lack thereof.

The upper row on each page shows normal web size shots (900 pixel length)while the bottom row shows large size (2400 pixel) photos for close examination.

The first page has to do with the Easthampton Town Hall. Examine the details of the brickwork and shingled roof. This set includes the AF-S 24-35., as well as the 50mm control and the 35-70mm.

The second page featurs the tops of tall evergreens. Examine the color, contrast, and detail of both the pine needs (upper left) and the hemlock branches (remainder of picture). This set includes the Tamron 17-50mm, in addition to the 50mm control and again the 35-70mm.

All NEFs were brought into NX and auto-adjusted in curves, then #10 contrast added, and USM used to better define edges at 10-5-0. These are my standard NEF processing procedures. Only the 35-50mm was "off" enough to have the auto-adjust make a difference. This non-coated lens tends to lack contrast and be slightly "bright", and auto-adjust corrects that.
