A small cemetery along Route 5 in Holyoke contains many old, old graves of families that have been in the area for years. One large gravesite for the Underwood family contains not only many small graves and markers, but also a monument with plaques on four sides underneath listing at least a dozen family members going back well into the 1700's. This statue is on top of the base.
This little cemetery is almost hidden from the road and partially screened by trees. According the early morning sun hits parts of it for little less than an hour a day. I took this photo amongst many, many others just as the sun cleared the treeline across the river from the cemetery and fell upon the statue. No idea of what lies behind the statue, but if I had to guess it is probably "Virtue".
The statue obviously needs cleaning and has spyder webs around the head. The second shot is a 1:1 crop of the spyder web showing a bee as the spyder's next dinner, as well as some weeds or pine needles caught in the web as well.
