Tomari Fish Market

Here are some photos from Okinawa fish market and a typical morning. Fish is a very important item in the Japanese diet. Thousands of fish are harvested every day, usually during two or three-day trips to the active fishing grounds. The fish are kept in an ice-brine cooled state until they make it to fish markets like the one at Tomari. After the buyers bid and buy their choices, they prepare and pack them into delivery trucks. The trucks take them to restaurants and grocery stores all over Okinawa. The market is open six days-a-week throughout the year.
