PM urges support for veterans to boost morale, build bonds

As Cambodia prepares to mark a renewed chapter in civil-military solidarity, Prime Minister Hun Manet has instructed every level of government to undertake a nationwide campaign of appreciation for Cambodia’s veterans.
In his official message issued yesterday, the Premier emphasised the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices of the veterans.
“All ministries, institutions, and sub-national administrations shall organise delegations to visit and offer well-wishes to veterans, both men and women, based in local communities; those currently serving on border and island defence missions; those undergoing medical treatment in hospitals; and those with disabilities residing in veterans’ development centres,” the Premier wrote in his message.
He said the visits aim to strengthen emotional bonds and provide encouragement to all veterans and active service members.
Cambodia is set to mark Veteran’s Day on June 21, a national occasion dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the country’s former combatants.
Established in 2007 by the sub-decree, the day recognises the vital role veterans played in defending Cambodia’s sovereignty and restoring peace after years of conflict.
It not only serves to commemorate their heroic contributions but also aims to raise public awareness of their needs and roles in society.
Through ceremonies, community outreach, and media campaigns, the day reinforces a spirit of gratitude, unity, and national pride—especially among younger generations—while encouraging continued support for veterans, including those with disabilities, those under medical care, and those still serving in border and island defence missions.
