Cambodia will celebrate the yearly Visak Bochea Day, one of the biggest Buddhist ceremonies, on Sunday.
Generally, this religious ceremony is celebrated on top of a hill at Preah Reach Troap (Oudong) in Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province, where a stupa of Buddha’s relics is located.
This year’s celebration will be presided over by Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and his spouse.
Thousands of Buddhist followers, including senior officials from the Parliament and government, and foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia, will be in attendance.
Visak Bochea Day, which is the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of Buddha, for Buddhist countries, including Cambodia, it was internationally recognised by the United Nations in 2000. It is a public holiday and an occasion where the Buddhist followers are reminded of Buddha and his teachings.
