Pink dolphin delights off the coast of Cambodia
Khmer Times
June 23, 2024
A rare – and cute – pink dolphin has been spotted frolicking in the sea between Kampong Som and Koh Rong Samloem.
A Chinese man posted images of the rare dolphin on social media, after encountering the animal.
The Chinese man confirmed that he had lived on Koh Rong for three years and had encountered the dolphin several times.
“I have met dolphins many times and I see that everyone likes them,” he said. “So I share to all of you. I hope we can all protect the environment so that this species can live in the beautiful oceans of Cambodia more.”
Koh Rong Mayor Nuon Bulthol has confirmed that he and some tourists have also seen this dolphin in the Cambodian sea.
“It is true that Cambodia has a pink dolphin…” he said. “I’ve seen it many times, but I see small dolphins.”
Mayor Nuon added: “This dolphin is very rare and only appears in the middle of the deep sea.”
He added that the authorities have also called on the people who are fishermen and tourists not to touch and catch it, that is, to jointly care for and conserve this rare fish, while in the past, this species has been caught by the net of fisherman.
Pink dolphins are a rare species and are listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.
